Choose Your Balloon

My talks often open with: If you keep doing what you've always done, you'll get what you've always got.

Plot that on a graph; what would it look like? A flat line. If you went to the general hospital what would they tell you…?

I want to help you find new and better ways to get you to extraordinary results!

Successful people surround themselves with diversity of thought. If you and I have the same thought, then one of us isn’t necessary; we need to build on each other’s ideas.

I encourage people to “Practice Pausitivity”. The ability to push boundaries, consider all angles, and continually find new ways of looking at situations helps us grow. Press the pause button, rewind the situation and relive it from a new and different perspective.

This issue of Your Electric Bill focuses on growth; stretching our minds and exploring options.

This month’s Microstep talks about a literal stretch (of a balloon) and how it applies to our thinking. Our brain's neuroplasticity.

You will also find a discount code for a wonderful leadership summit for women - to stretch your perspective. And, you’ll find information about coaching - a very direct way to stretch your way of thinking.

I hope you find opportunities for your own growth and that you can use the tips and suggestions in this newsletter as nudges to get you started.

Let me know what you think.

Until next time - keep growing!

Bill

MICROSTEP

In my book, Electric Life, I've created twelve tiny steps forward. As you implement these small actions into your daily life, you’ll understand the choices you can make to close the gap between the person you are and the person you want to be.

In choosing your path deliberately and joyfully, you can discover, keep, and even build energy to live your own electric life.

Think about someone blowing a balloon up and watching it expand with their breath. If they let go, the air escapes (with that sound beloved by children everywhere) and the deflated balloon now has a new, stretched shape. It will never go back to its original shape.

I like to say, "a mind, once stretched by an idea, will never return to its original shape."

Like the elasticity of a balloon, the way we interpret the information we receive will alter the way we understand any future event.

Intentionally choosing how we think, what matters to us and what will define and represent who we are in the world comes down to making decisions about what you can gain, from both good and bad experiences.

Consider how your balloon of life experience is altered by your environment, whether you have control of the conversations in your life, whether you’re feeling engaged and valued in your interactions.

Be curious - question where you are, and seek the other perspective.

5 Tips

Here are a few things you can do to choose your balloon and be intentional about changing its shape.

We'll be talking about them this month on social media - follow me for more details!

  1. Good luck/bad luck: always question which it is and seek the other perspective.

  2. What are the events, workplaces or social groups where you feel engaged and valued for your contributions?

  3. Who is in control of the conversations where you feel seen and heard?

  4. How can you rethink your environment, even in the smallest way, so that you feel more alive and energized?

  5. What are the things you want to have an impact in your life, and change your balloon? What are the things you want to remove from your life so that they don’t change your balloon?

One-on-One Leadership Coaching!

My favourite definition of "coach" is:

"A vehicle used to move a person of value from where they are, to where they want to be."

When you work with me, I am the coach (the vehicle) that helps move the person of value (you!) from where you are, to where you need to be.

So, where are you?

Where do you need to be?

How can I act as your coach to get you there?

You can book a 10- session or 20-session package and get clear, actionable plans to help you achieve your coaching goals. We can meet virtually or over the phone - whatever method works best for you!

My job is to ask thought-provoking questions, listen beyond words to hear what you don't say, observe and to share feedback. I help you become more aware of your thought patterns and help you create new ones.

You will develop and enhance your critical leadership traits, whether you're currently managing a team, or have your eye on a future role.

Message me and let's chat to see how I can help.
